The end to all unbearable family-friendly cuddliness on the Wii? HotD: Overkill! You owe it to yourself!

Played through the campaign. About to tackle the now accessible "Director's Cut" next.

House of the Dead: Overkill is the better Grindhouse persiflage! Yes, that's in reference to your mediocre try, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez.

The music is excellent, the writing and story are super-awesome.

Both aspects are authentic to the grindhouse genre, if you can guess what I am hinting at :)

Admittedly the gameplay doesn't hold any surprises for rail shooter afficionados and unfortunately suffers from occasional slowdowns (based on the final PAL release version I have lying around here - seriously Headstrong Games, WTH?).

Nevertheless, in my view the title certainly has potential to become a cult hit. I'm very impressed by the game's level of polish.

Here's to hoping that core gamers discover this little gem and titles for a mature audience become common on the Wii :)

 Cheers!

should I buy it if I'm not that into splatter? I mean: is it a good game beside that?

Yes, it is a good game. IMHO Splatter alone is not a distinct quality
about any game.

What makes House of the Dead: Overkill so exceptional is, that it is a
solid rail shooter, embedded in an excellent audio-visual presentation
that resembles the best of grindhouse persiflages.

If you don't like rail shooters per se, HotD is not going to make you
a believer though.
